And so Meating
of Minds joins the ever wild and unrestrained philosophy blog circuit. Written by two
recent graduates, Jonny Lee and
Joe Dewhurst, it will
focus on philosophical issues in cognitive science, philosophy of mind and social cognition, with occasional
forays into more general philosophy. The slightly off-putting name reflects our focus: a
naturalistic approach that is committed to an embodied explanation of
the mind.
Joe has just finished an MA in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, and will be continuing on to do an MSc in Mind, Language and Embodied Cognition in September (at the same institution). His main philosophical interests are cognition, ethics and political philosophy. In his spare time he writes fiction, climbs mountains and cooks food. He also trains in a variety of (mostly Japanese) martial arts. He publishes his more serious work here.
Jonny is the best thing never to have
happened to human intellectual development since the invention of the butter stick. He has recently
completed his degree at the University of Edinburgh and currently
spends his time looking for postgraduate possibilities and reading continental philosophy in a silly German accent. His research areas of interest include cognition and consciousness, non-human minds, personal-identity and the future of zeppelin travel. In his spare time he
enjoys writing biographies of himself in the third-person
